I'm fairly certain that Canon MacHardy is the minister in the centre right of the picture. Mairi Mackenzie

Canon MacHardy for definite..gentleman with silver tray is John MacKay "Provost"..daughter Gertrude beside him and next to her is Cath ?? used to work in the Municipal chambers..also looks like Lofty Lane in rear row behind lady with the white hat. gent to lofty's left I recognise but cannot place..

Mrs Mackay is to Provost Mackay's right. Could that be Iain McKean (later Provost) to Canon MacHardy's right? This must have been a presentation to Provost MacKay, possibly for his retirement?

I think you're probably right Fraser, but the photo appears to be taken at the hospital. I wonder why?
Added by on 21 January 2007.

Don't think it's taken at the hospital. Looks more like the telephone exchange sited behind the Old Post Office with the Academy behind. Possible the Woodwork Room which had Home Ec. to it's right and History (Tich) to the left

Would that be Cath Watson that worked in the council offices?
Added by on 21 January 2007.

Looks like they are behind the Town Hall. (Yes, I agree that the wooden building is the telephone exchange and the building behind is the Academy.) Is that Gertrude near the middle of the group? Would that be her father with the silver plate?
If that is Ian McKean, then the picture must be from 1964/65 onwards as he lived in Muir of Ord until then.

The part yellow building seen in the background, is in fact the old woodwork class.

Of course it is, Eddie. I'd forgotten about the classrooms there. Good to hear from you.

The names of the people are from the left :- Mairi Gordon, ?, Douglas Lane, Eva Mackay, Jack Robb, John Mackay (Provost), Mr Ross, Gertrude Gorman, Ian MacKean, Canon MacHardy, Cath Watson, Willie Sutherland and Cath Grant. It was taken after the Freedom of the Burgh Ceremony in 1968. John Mackay is my grandad.

Any idea who is behind Mairi Gordon, it looks like a history teacher who was at the academy called I think Gerald Mortimer?
