Glad you enjoy browsing the site, Norman. It's pretty time-consuming trying to keep up with photographs at the moment. The artists are going at such a speed. There are 4 working here just now and Ann and I are just amateurs at this caper. Noreen

Hi all,
U-776 surfaced and surrendered SW of Fastnet Light on 14 May 1945 and entered Portland on the following day. As H.M. Submarine N-65 she was commissioned into the Royal Navy for exhibition purposes, and undertook a meet-the-people tour during the summer of 1945 calling at London (Westminster Pier), Southampton, Dover, Chatham, Harwich, Great Yarmouth, Hull, Grimsby, Middlesbrough, Blyth, Newcastle, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Rosyth, Dundee, Aberdeen, INVERGORDON, Kirkwall, Lerwick and then on to Loch Ryan. She was stored there until sunk in the north Atlantic under Operation Deadlight. U-776 was towed out from Loch Ryan by the tug ENFORCER on 3rd December 1945 and foundered in 48 fathoms that same day at position 5508N x 0530W..
The picture must therefore date from circa July 1945.
I am shortly to publish an illustrated history of the surrender of the German U-boat fleet into Loch Eriboll in May 1945. Thirty-three U-boats surrendered to Loch Eriboll, and I have identified them all. Sadly U-776 was not one of them.
Best wishes.

this u boat seems to be fitted with a snorkel, a late development. u776 surrendered in may 1945. It became the british submarine n65, used for tests prior to being scuttled. It may have been in Invergordon in its role as n65, open to the public.
