Comments
Thank you for your comments. I remember your grandparents well, we were neighbours. Saltburn Community Council and Association along with the present owner briefed the artist and approved the final design. All were delighted with the finished painting. Sorry it hasn't grown on you but the colours really cheer me up when I walk up the High Street.

I suppose if the owner is happy with it then that's ok and if it cheers folk up then that's something my grandparents would have definitely wanted. If you remember them then I'm sure you'll know what I mean. They were particularly proud of their house and garden (which also has changed dramatically) and I know other members of the family who still live in the area are a wee bit disgruntled - I suppose this is because the house was such a focus of so many happy (and some not so happy) memories of a close knit family. As we get older we tend not to want to see things change - this change - coming as the surprise it did for my sister and I - was just a bit too much to take in

I wonder what my grandfather Dan, who was the postie up there for many years, would have made of this.
My sister and I always like to drive up the High Street on the way to our Aunt's (Doris Ritchie)house in Saltburn and have to say that by the time we left a couple of days later, the painting of our 'ancestral home' hadn't grown on us.
