1953 Coronation Trophy

Duguid wrote 'Mr S Mactaggart, Invergordon presents the Ross W F A Coronation Trophy to D Ross, captain of Dingwall Thistle who beat Alness 3-2 in the final at Invergordon'.

Sam Mactaggart was bank manager, we think, in the old Commercial Bank of Scotland, unless you know different!

Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1953. Local clubs still compete for this trophy in the Scottish Welfare Association's Ross-shire league. The cup is currently on display in the Social Club as their football team are the most recent to have won it.

Thanks for the information. Do you happen to know if this photograph was actually taken in 1953 or later? Noreen

Dingwall Thistle won this cup for the first three seasons of its existence, so the picture could have been taken in 1953, 54 or 55.

Have changed the date to 1953. Many thanks.
