Kildary Angling Club, who fish the loch, and Albyn Housing Society Ltd who kindly offered the facade of their building for the first mural were the two community groups involved in briefing the artist. The man-made Kildary Loch, (Lochanan) is a perfect example of a regenerated quarry.
The renowned artist, Ken White, was commisssioned to paint our first mural and met with both groups to discuss the brief and a design was agreed.
Some local comments:
'I really didn't want these paintings in the beginning, but it's very well done. I had visions of it being a bit ugly, but I'm very pleased with it. I'd be happy to see more'.
'I thought it would make Invergordon look cheap. I really do like it now its finished. If they are as good as this I'd be happy to see more'.
The formal unveiling of "The Loch" by Jamie Stone MSP took place in June 2004. We were delighted to welcome representatives from Forward Scotland and Rural Voices without whose help and support this project could not have been completed.
